"Freedom of press: the right to know" Photo Exhibition-2014, Photos and Caricatures
“Freedom of Press: the Right to Know” is the theme of an exhibition that opened in Yerevan on 5 May 2014 to mark World Press Freedom Day. It is already the fourth year that the Freedom of Information Centre, in cooperation with the EU Delegation to Armenia and the OSCE Office in Yerevan, has organized such an exhibition.
It aims to reflect on the challenges and opportunities of exercising the right to information and to remind the government, media representatives, and the public at large of their role in observing this right. More than 70 photos and caricatures displayed in the exhibition will be published in a special catalog devoted to International Press Freedom Day.
World Press Freedom Day is celebrated across the globe every May to commemorate the fundamental principles of media freedom, help guarantee and promote the freedom of information, and to remind civil society organizations, other relevant stakeholders, and the media in particular, of their central part in it.

On May 3, 2013, the FOICA organized the 3rd Photo Exhibition “Freedom of the Press, the Right to Know” to mark World Press Freedom Day. The event, organized by the Freedom of Information Center of Armenia NGO in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, USAID Armenia, and OSCE Yerevan Office, brought together journalists, representatives of state institutions, and civil society in Armenia.
The one-week exhibition aims to reflect on the challenges and opportunities of exercising the right to information and to remind the government, media representatives, and the public at large of their role in achieving this right. The photos and caricatures included in the exhibition, over 70 in all, will be published in a special catalog devoted to International Press Freedom Day.
World Press Freedom Day is celebrated across the globe every May 3 to commemorate the fundamental principles of media freedom. The event calls on member states to guarantee and promote the freedom of information and to remind civil society organizations, other relevant stakeholders, and the news media in particular, of their central part in furthering it.
"Freedom of press: the right to know" Photo Exhibition-2012, Photos and Caricatures
On May 3, 2012, the FOICA organized the second Photo Exhibition “Freedom of the Press, the Right to Know” to mark World Press Freedom Day.
The event, organized by the Freedom of Information Center of Armenia NGO in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union, brought together journalists, representatives of state institutions, and members of civil society. The event was also supported by USAID/Armenia and the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
The one-week exhibition aims to reflect on the challenges and opportunities of exercising the right to information and to remind the government, media representatives, and the public at large of their role in achieving this right. All photos/caricatures included in the exhibition, over 70 in total, will be published in a catalog.
Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador H.E. Mr. Traian Hristea welcomed the exhibition as a creative way to demonstrate public perceptions of access to information and freedom of expression in Armenia.
“Free expression and information are key to the respect of human dignity and critical tools enabling citizens to take an active part in public life. We hope the exhibition will remind the government, media, and public at large of the role they each can play in achieving implementation of the right to free speech and information, mentioned Ambassador Andrey Sorokin, Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan”.
President of the Freedom of Information Centre, Shushan Doydoyan added: “This is a special exhibition since everybody, including journalists, citizens, and professional photographers were invited to present their images on the topic. In the photos, the heroes voice their disagreement towards violence against press freedom, as well as their right to access information despite the obstacles and barriers they face”.
U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern also made remarks commending the organizers and commenting on the importance of a free press and access to information for a well-functioning democracy. Ambassador Heffern encouraged the Freedom of Information Center of Armenia to continue the good work it does in promoting transparency and accountability of public institutions.

"Freedom of press: the right to know" Photo Exhibition-2010
“Freedom of press: the right to know” is the theme of the exhibition that opened in Yerevan on May 3, 2010, to mark World Press Freedom Day.
The event, organized by the Freedom of Information Center of Armenia NGO as part of the Access to Information for Community Involvement project funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), in cooperation with the OSCE Office in Yerevan and the UN Department of Public Information, brought together journalists, representatives of state institutions and civil society in Armenia.
The aim of the one-week exhibition featuring over 30 unique images selected out of 300 submitted photos is to reflect ideas on the challenges and opportunities of exercising the right to know and to remind the government, media representatives, and the public at large of their role in achieving this right. All photos included in the exhibition will be published in a catalog.
The Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Sergey Kapinos welcomed the exhibition as a creative way to show public perceptions about freedom of information and expression situation. “Free access to information is key to the respect of human dignity and serves as a critical tool enabling citizens to take an active part in public life and helping them exercise their other human rights. This exhibition is a good opportunity to contemplate over these issues”, he said.

“Freedom of information is intrinsically linked to the basic human right of freedom of expression and therefore also fundamentally connected to press freedom, representing a crucial element to enable media to strengthen democratization, good governance, and human development”, Dafina Gercheva, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia mentioned.
The US Ambassador to Armenia noted in her speech: “To move forward in today’s dynamic global environment, societies must tap into the creativity and talents of their people. This means trusting their citizens to make meaningful choices based on full information. I urge all of us to recommit to working for a more open and informed society in Armenia.”
