On December 23, the first training course for empowering the professional skills of Artsakh journalists was launched. On the first day of the two-day course “Analysis of open data and use of open sources”, the participants studied and explored the world of data and open resources, discovering its potential to make their stories more impactful and shed light on truths in their future stories.
The training covered the basics of data journalism, showing participants how to use tools like Piktochart, Infogram, Flourish, and open-source resources and tools that can help turn raw data into insightful stories. They also researched several public registers and databases, uncovering hidden information.
On the second day of the course, Artsakh journalists presented the results of the previous day’s assignment. Each of them should study one person’s property and income declarations for different years and prepare material in different genres of journalism. With the trainer Harutyun Tsatryan, the participants also discussed how to create journalistic stories with the help of open data, and got acquainted with the possibilities of several platforms.
We will start the next training course on Freedom of information and Personal data protection on January 10, 2024.
The trainings are carried out by the Center for Freedom of Information within the framework of the Empowering Media Professionals from Artsakh project with the support of Reporters Without Borders International Organization.
