FEATURED

Thanks to two years of efforts of FOICA and active cooperation with partners, the Concept and the Action Plan of the Struggle against Disinformation 2024-2026 were adopted. The documents were developed by the Freedom of Information Center of Armenia.
In January 2024, the "Civil Pact" party, after the FOICA appealed to the court, asked to sign a settlement agreement and provided the required information on pre-election fundraising.
This is the first court precedent in Armenia, which refers to proactive transparency; the local public authority was obliged to fulfill the duty established by the FOI law to ensure proactive transparency, based on a judicial act.

Success Story 1․ FOICA Initiated the Development and Adoption of the RA Law on Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Center initiated and successfully implemented the development and adoption of the RA Law on Freedom of Information in 2003. This was the first and important step of FOICA on the way to ensure the freedom of information in Armenia.

Freedom of Information Center, bringing together a group of journalists, representatives of NGOs and members of parliament Victor Dallakian and Vardan Bostanjyan, created a working group, which, as a result of over 2 years of work, developed and presented to the RA National Assembly the RA Law “On Freedom of Information”.

On September 23, 2003, the RA National Assembly adopted the RA Law “On Freedom of Information”, which was recognized as one of the best laws in the world by the international community and specialists in the sector. This was an exceptional case, when civil society was able to cooperate with the Government and the National Assembly actively and effectively developing as a result a progressive legislative act (https://foi.am/u_files/file/legislation/FOIeng.pdf).
